Description
A classic in the world of revolvers, this early Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 29 is a standout example of craftsmanship from the 1956–1957 era. Featuring the desirable 4-screw frame and 4" barrel configuration, this .44 Magnum is built with a red insert Baughman front sight and white-outlined Micrometer rear for precise sighting. The target trigger and hammer are both case colored, maintaining the original S&W aesthetic.
What sets this revolver apart are the original checkered "Coke bottle" target grips, known for their palm-filling contour and recessed left panel. Matching serials are found on the frame, cylinder, extractor, and yoke, with the barrel and grips likely replaced or unnumbered from the factory. The overall finish shows honest holster wear and light scratches, giving this piece character without compromising its function—backed by a near-excellent bore.
It comes housed in a refinished mahogany presentation case with a replacement interior and includes a period-correct tool kit with the long-blade screwdriver and cleaning implements. A solid collector’s item with working-gun pedigree, backed by provenance from S&W Member #3451, George Staden.
