Description
This Colt Model 1860 Army revolver, originally manufactured around 1871, was later converted to cartridge firing and assembled using mixed-numbered components by the legendary Stembridge Gun Rentals of Hollywood, California. Stembridge was the premier supplier of firearms to the film industry for over 70 years, and its props appeared in countless Western classics.
This example bears several distinctive Stembridge identification marks, including an “S6” on the left of the frame, “S” stamps on the bottom and right side of the frame, and “44 W” on the barrel, indicating chambering in .44 Center Fire. The trigger guard is marked “U.S.,” suggesting the frame originated from a U.S. military-issued 1860 Army revolver before its later adaptation for film use.
Retaining much of its nickel-plated finish, this revolver shows expected wear from both age and studio handling. The walnut grip remains solid, showing authentic patina from use. Mechanically, the hammer does not cock and the cylinder does not rotate, but the revolver remains a fine display example of an authentic Hollywood-used Colt—an intersection of Old West craftsmanship and cinematic history.
